Description: Sol beer is brought to us by our friends in Mexico. It's name means "sun" in Spanish. It was first brewed in 1899 by Amecameca Brewery and it is one of Mexico's most popular exported beers.

This beer has a yellowish color, displayed nicely in the clear bottle with an engraved label. The aroma is a little malty and somewhat sweet. The taste of Sol could be described as balanced, with a bitter finish. You can detect the taste of malt and hops, but neither taste dominates the other. The alcohol level is 4.5% by volume and there are approx. 135 calories per 12 oz. serving.

You may have a hard time finding Sol in the United States, due to its limited marketing base. But if you find yourself at a resort in Mexico, you will have no problem getting a glass of Sol beer. It ranks right up there with Corona, Dos Equis, and Tecate as the most popular beers served to tourists visiting Mexico. It does go well with Mexican food, as you might expect.

Pros: Refreshing and strong
Cons:

This is a fantastic beer...Malt taste but very filling..this beer is a great switch from the skunky taste of Corona...I have had hundreds of Sol's and prefer it to many other Mexican Beer..This beer has somewhat of a bitter after taste but in a good way...I very much enjoy this beer...

Pros: ummm, beer!
Cons: none whatsoever

About a year ago the stores in our area started carrying this beer. They started with 4 cases and in 2 days they were sold out, and I only bought a couple 6 packs. Needless to say I'm not the only one around Charlotte, NC that likes to drink a lot of Sol and the stores have learned to stock up on it. Not nearly as filling as Corona and definitly don't need a lime to enjoy a cold one.

Pros: Good
Cons:

I must warn you - this beer holds a special place in my heart.

This is the first beer I ever drank with my grandfather (it was he who didn't drink). He loved his Sol. We went to his favorite Mexican restaurant in Arizona, ate dinner and tipped back a couple Sol's.

Needless to say - I still enjoy this beer. Very easy to drink.
