Pros: Great snorkeling, clean tropical beach/ great staff/ super clean resort
Cons: Smoking allowed in the resteraunts/buffets

We went to Barcelo in June 2004 for a week. Resort was super clean and looked brand new. Staff/Service was great. We thought the food/buffets were also very good. Best part of this resort was the beach/ocean, just clear and beautifull. We never had to worry about getting a chair and a palm tree (for shade). Great snorkeling off the pier. We spent most of our vacation at this resort because the beach was so nice.
We would highly recommend this resort to familys and singles alike.
It was a great value for all the service/fun we had.

Pros: Large,excellent beach, tropical surroundings
Cons: Nothing

Been 3 times, love the food, layout, grounds pool and beach. The resort is well kept, and very beautiful. Very clean, rooms are well stocked, and staff is great. I will be back to this resort again in 2006 if not sooner. We all loved it again. Very good value for the money, I got a good price, but even if I paid full price its still worth it. Great resort.

Pros: Huge beach, freindly staff, variety of watersports and foods, close to Playa del Carmen
Cons: red wine pretty weak, bar service slow, warm refrigerator, key in slot to keep electricity running

This is a very good AI resort that has plenty to offer. A good variety of foods, watersports, huge pools with swim up pool bars (2), and turn down service is a nice touch. Staff was very attentive to special needs. For example we celebrated our 15th anniversary there and they made sure we had champagne in our room and at dinner, along with flowers in the room and at dinner a special dessert and serenading by the wait staff in Spanish. Even though the resort is huge, you never feel crowded. You never see alot of people. The beach is so large that you can always find a private spot to sit and swim. Beach is soft, white sand that does not get hot. Plenty of chairs available and no need to play the towel game. Room service is available for a small charge too. They are going through a major expansion but there is plenty of room that this will not effect the character of the resort.

Pros: GREAT BEACH, clean, Great buffet, covered walks, Excellent pools, shade or sun
Cons: Slow Bar service, typical hard beds

Vacationed here for a week in March 2005. Were very happy with most everything. Only real exceptions was the slow bar service (Staff was good, just not enough help sometimes) The other thing was not getting any padding for the hard mattress. Tried 3 times, no luck. Beyond that it was a great week. Internet was available for $6 per half hour. Nice to check in with family without big phone charges. Beach was A+ Chest deep water 100 yards or more from shore. Grounds kept very clean. Nightly entertainment was nice. Great mix of folks from Canada, US, Italy, other Europeans. Lots of women felt free to go sans top at the beach and some ladies as well at the pool. Horses and 4-wheelers were available on site. Tour agencies in hotel lobby if you choose to do that. didn't find the spa / gym facilities till the last night.
Too bad it is not closer to Playa, I would have gone there more than once if it was closer. I would certainly go there again without regrets but may opt for a place in Playa next time.

Pros: beach
Cons: service, walking

Nice resort, beautiful beach!

Holdbacks were walking a mile to anywhere, service was terrible, especially around the pool bar. Wouldn't go back.
