tour itinerary

• We leave Playa del Carmen at around 7.30 am.

• On the way to Tulum, we get acquainted with each other and what we're about to see and experience during this active day.

The ruins of Tulum have one of the most dramatic settings of all - perched on a cliff by the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Our group will be joined by a local guide, specialized on Tulum.

• After the visit to the ruins we'll go swimming and snorkeling in one of the area's most fascinating cenotes - Gran Cenote.

Next we will go to a nearby private-access beach for lunch. We will get lunch ready for you as you swim around in the turquoise water of the Caribbean. Drinks and tropical fruit are also on the menu, and chill-time in the hammock is a must.

• Satisfied with food and beach, we’ll head north towards Playa, and will make one more cenote stop on the way, this time at a very nice smaller cenote in a lush jungle setting with a fun cliff to jump from – a perfect ending to a beautiful day.

• We will be back in Playa del Carmen at around 5 pm.

Designed for people who 'don't do tours'

This famous Tulum and Beyond tour (brought to you by Yucatreks) is quite different from other Tulum tours. It's not so much a tour as it is being shown the 'best of' by friends who live here. Though it's a day full of wonderful experiences, we don't rush anyone - it's all about being able to enjoy the wonders of the Mayan Riviera.

The Day
Yucatreks' Tulum and Beyond excursion is a one of a kind day with lots of varied action, described by many as the highlight of their vacation. This tour gives guests a taste of the best the Riviera Maya has to offer: you'll explore the ruins of Tulum, swim/snorkel in two different cenotes, and enjoy a picnic lunch and relaxation time on a lovely, secluded beach. Read more about on this fun and experience-packed day in the itinerary on your right.

More about Tulum
With our goal of beating the crowds to Tulum, we schedule pickups between 7.20 am and 8.00 am, and this early jump on the day sets the tone for a relaxing, hassle-and hordes-free day. There's simply no other place on the Mayan Riviera coast like the ruins of Tulum. Although we have visited countless times, the stunning views from the only cliff the area has to offer continue to astound us. You can read more about the ruins of Tulum here. Our goal is to provide our guests with interesting information, spectacular views and an appreciation for the intriguing mystery that was ancient Mayan civilization and we never rush our guests or herd them like cattle from place to place.

Cooling off
After the hot visit to Tulum, you will love the next stop - Gran Cenote. This area is unique for its cenotes, which basically are waterfilled sinkholes doubling as entrances to cave systems. This particular cenote is highly decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, both above and beneath the surface. The water is cool and clear as air. Snorkeling in this natural wonder will give you an unforgettable memory that can only be experienced first hand. We snorkel around stalactites and stalagmites for as long as the group enjoys it.

The Beach
This particular stretch of beach is absolutely stunning. The beach of Tulum is voted by CondeNast as one of the top-10 beaches in the world. We access the beach close to the entrance of the biosphere Sian Ka'an, where there's hardly any people, just a looooong white paradise beach. We set up lunch here, eat, swim in the ocean, throw a frisbee, have a couple of beers, lay in a hammock, chill or go for a stroll. No rush.

One Last Stop
Heading back to Playa we need to clear our heads and perk up after an eventful day. We stop at a great little cenote where we'll see some fish, great examples of fossils and jump off a cliff into to the water (optional). Float, swim, jump, snorkel or chill - your choice. At this time in the afternoon, chances are good to see some colorful tropical birds in the vegetation surrounding the cenote.
